Destruction of boundary hedge at Holtspur School
Holtspur School is a vibrant community school where an incredible amount has been achieved by parents and the Headteacher to create a wonderful and safe environment for our children.
This is now threatened by the actions of London and Quadrant.
Having stated in their planning permission that they would be trimming the hedge on our Northern boundary, it now appears that they intend to grub this out in its entirety in the next 2 weeks, leaving us only with remnants of a decrepit chain link fence to protect our property and children's safety.
Not only is this wanton and unnecessary destruction of a local habitat, but it will leave the school desperately exposed to vandalism and theft, a problem that we have only recently countered with the erection of new boundary fences in other areas after suffering a spate of thefts of lead from our roof.
Not only are London and Quadrant guilty of misleading all concerned by not stating their intent to remove this ancient hedgerow in their planning application, but also their lack of honesty has robbed us of the opportunity to plant other hedging on school land that could have established itself over the summer in preparation for this move.
The ideal scenario would be that the hedge remains intact, albeit trimmed as per the original application. However this situation is resolved, we cannot have a scenario where one entire boundary of the school is completely open. London and Quadrant must take responsibility for ensuring this does not happen.
