Beaconsfield to unite to Break World Record on Olympics Day
Following a well attended meeting held at Beaconsfield Town Council a plan was agreed for the Beaconsfield Old and New town to unite to break a world record on 7th July 2012.
This date has been selected to coincide with the day the Olympic Torch is expected to pass through Beaconsfield.
The world record attempt is only part of a day that will also be filled with fun events and activities.
Although the specific events planned for the 7th July are still to be confirmed it is expected to include a 'giant tug of war' and to culminate with a party entertained by a live band.
Counsellor Matt Denyer arranged the meeting that was attended by, amongst others, representatives from Beaconsfield sports clubs and school governers.
He told the Bucks Free Press that, "With smashing records one of the exciting elements of the games, Beaconsfield residents will try to break one of their own. We're looking at trying to create an event in the evening which will be a world record. The talk at the moment is the largest mass aerobic exercise in the new town."
Further to this he reported, "Now we're getting closer to it being a reality we're very excited and we're trying to pin down an Olympian to open the event too,"
Finally he appealed to the people of Beaconsfield Old and New towns and Holtspur to get together stating, "We're looking for people to get involved of all ages, especially youngsters and tell us what they would like to see happening."
All three areas will have venues hosting events and activities.
