If you're an electric car owner in Beaconsfield, you'll greet this news with much joy! There are four new park and charge locations in the Chilterns!

As reported in the Bucks Advertiser, charging points for electric cars have been installed at Amersham multi-storey car park, Link Road in Great Missenden, Church Lane in Chalfont St Peter and Water Meadow car park in Chesham.

According to the Department for Transport on March 31 2011 there were 58 electric cars owned by residents in the area of Chiltern district, but that number is expected to grow.

Installation of electric charging points of this type costs in the region of £2,000 and is been funded by a Government scheme called Plugged-In Places. This programme aims to provide electric vehicle recharging facilities to families all across the country.

Electric car drivers need to register for a smart card before using the charging points. The smart card, costing £50 per year, will activate the electric supply to the power point in the special parking space. Normal parking ticket charges apply for the cars in these power enabled spaces, and there are two charging points in each car park.

Do you or anyone you know use an electric car? Let us know about your motoring experiences in Beaconsfield, South Bucks and in the Chilterns.

I had no idea so many people i the area actually drive electric cars?! I certainly don't know anyone who drives one - to be honest I thought it was only celebrities who could afford one that goes more than 30 miles an hour. I obviously need to read up on the subject...!
