Today was A Level results day across the UK, and both of the secondary Schools in Beaconsfield were host to students and parents arriving to collect results.

The rain was falling on the streets of Beaconsfield as the High Schools opened their doors at 9.00am

Beaconsfield High School had the main hall set up ready to receive the eager students, with student artwork decorating the entrance hall. The friendly faces of many teachers and staff were on hand to offer congratualtions or comfort in equal measure.

The weather kept people mainly indoors, and  steady flow of Parents and Pupils arrived to collect the much anticipated 2011 A Level Results.

Some students told me "the weeks of waiting are worse than the exams themselves. It's torture"

It's thought that the Pupils of Beaconsfield High School have achieved remarkable results again this year, and it's expected that a higher number of students will have achieved A* and A grades compared to previous years.

Just across the road at The Beaconsfield School, the Headmaster and staff were sharing the results with Students, and the atmosphere was upbeat despite the rain outside.

This specialist Arts College has reported that 38 per cent of its pupils received A* to B grades, and 65 per cent received A* to Cs.

Head teacher John Fletcher at The Beaconsfield School said: "The pupils should feel very proud of what they have achieved. They have worked incredibly hard for their results, and the staff and I are very, very pleased with all of them for their efforts this year."

It's expected that A Level results across Beaconsfield will be better than ever this year. It will be interesting to see the Buckinghamshire A Level League tables when they are released for 2011-2011.

Inevitably not all pupils of the two Beaconsfield High Schools were thrilled with the results they achieved. In a few cases the weeks of tension from waiting gave way to an outpouring of disappointment after achieving lower than expected grades.

For those that find their original plans need to be reconsidered, the clearing process is there to help

One of our local Beaconsfield residents, Alexander Jewell, himself a past A level student has launched a helpful website to assist failed A level Students who need to take a Forced Gap Year. Lots of tips and advise to help through difficult times.
